COA Sponsors Special Book Event

History of ANMC-Revisited

On January 31, 2012 the Aurora Borealis Branch of the Commissioned Officers Association (COA) sponsored a special celebration to commemorate a cherished piece of local literature, entitled Alaska Native Medical Center: 1953-1983, written by Dr. Robert Fortuine.  Spearheading the reprinting and subsequent tribute, was well- known professional acquaintance, Susan Clift, CAPT (retired), who served in ANMC’s Ear, Nose and Throat department for 25 years.    Approximately 40 books were sold at the event with proceeds going directly to the ANMC Auxiliary.   The book chronicles the history of the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) over the first thirty years of its existence.  A total of 100 were reprinted and distributed to contributors, libraries and family members as well as the Consortium.   Both official and personal data, along with interviews were used by Dr. Fortuine to compile this unique historical account.  Roberta Miljure from the ANMC Volunteer Services, along with several COA volunteers ensured that the book party was a sophisticated and enjoyable affair.  COA volunteers included:  LCDR Sara Doran-Atchison, LCDR Kara King, LCDR Christine Eldridge, LCDR Brittany Keener and LCDR Erin Naber.   Click on SOCIAL EVENTS for full article.
