In support of National Walking Day, an organized walk was coordinated at the Alaska Native Medical Center for employees, family, and friends. This was a great way to show employees that we have beautiful and relatively easy trail just outside of work that can be utilized on a lunch break. Everyone met in the parking lot behind the hospital near University Lake on a beautiful spring day for Alaska; sunny with temperatures in the 40’s. The group walked on a path around the lake behind the medical center’s campus. The University Lake trail is a one mile loop that begins and ends at the medical center. We made signs that stated “USPHS Supports the Surgeon Generals Every Body Walk! Initiative” and carried the signs while walking. This is a popular pathway and the signs were helpful for advertising our group. Some members of the group completed two loops.
We hope to schedule regular walks and increase our numbers throughout the summer.
