Announcing New PHS Flags

FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY – NOT FOR PUBLIC RELEASE

Dear Public Health Service Officers,

Thank you for everything you are doing in these challenging times. I continue to be amazed at the extraordinary role so many of our fellow U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps officers are playing in humanity’s struggle against COVID-19. Each of you are making a huge difference in keeping everyone healthy.

In troubled times like those we face today, symbols serve as key rallying points and morale boosters. Flags are the physical manifestation of the trust Americans have in the USPHS Commissioned Corps and our own belief in our Corps’ values.

The Public Health Service (PHS) flags and official seal enhance the prestige of the Corps, and symbolize the leadership roles of the Assistant Secretary of Health (ASH), Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health (PDASH), Surgeon General (SG), Deputy Surgeon General (DSG), and Assistant Surgeon Generals (ASG).

So, I am pleased to announce new flags for our ASH – Admiral Brett P. Giroir; and for our PDASH – RADM Sylvia Trent-Adams. We also are updating the flags for the SG – Vice Admiral Jerome M. Adams; the DSG – Rear Admiral Erica Schwartz; and the ASGs.

These flags will fly proudly next to our American flag and the yellow and blue of the PHS flag. The PHS flag was proudly flown at recent COVID-19 missions where our Public Health Service officers were deployed. When you see them please stop a moment to reflect on everything the Corps does for our nation and for the world

Thank you for what you are doing. I am humbled by the dedication each of you brings to the USPHS Commissioned Corps mission.
