Dear Public Health Service Officers,
The United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic has been extraordinary. We have had a historic number of deployments and we are extremely thankful for your willingness to serve our nation.
Some of you may have had health issues that may prevent you from deploying. In order to ensure that we can be responsive to deployment requests, it is important for you to inform the Medical Affairs Branch (MAB) within 7 days of becoming aware of a health issue that may prevent you from deploying. Please do not wait to inform MAB that you have a health issue until you are rostered for a deployment; doing so could be detrimental on our service’s ability to respond to requests in a timely manner.
Officers must be deployable at all times, unless they have a valid medical deployment waiver. If you believe you need a medical deployment waiver, please upload the Medical Waiver Request form along with associated medical documentation via e-DocU. The Medical Waiver Request form can be found at: (https://dcp.psc.gov/ccmis/PDF_docs/Active%20Duty%20and%20Reserve%20Corps%20Medical%20Waiver%20Request%209-17-18.pdf). MAB will review your requests and will inform you if your condition warrants a medical waiver.
Please go to the following site for additional information – https://dcp.psc.gov/ccmis/Medical%20Affairs/MA_medical_waiver_program.aspx.
If you have questions, please contact MAB at PHSMACCHQ@hhs.gov.
Respectfully,
Susan M. Orsega
